The Underwater Experience will be held at the GEARS Building in Accident, MD.
Weather permitting, a picnic will be held on Saturday June 28 at a waterside location to enable participants to run their Robots in open water. Application Form
Cost?
Tuition is $95.00 per student. GEARS members will receive a $10 discount.
Who?
The target student age for this camp is 13 – 16 years. However, unlike some camps, parents are encouraged to participate in the Underwater Experience with their children. Consequently, younger age children will be permitted if their parents will be attending all sessions. Up to 16 students will be accepted to this camp.
What?
The SEAperch Underwater Experience introduces students to the wonders of underwater robotics. Part of the Office of Naval Research's Initiative, "Recruiting the Next Generation of Naval Architects," this program teaches students how to investigate weight and buoyancy, how to build an underwater robot (called a Sea Perch) and how to build a propulsion system complete with controller. Students attending the camp will:
- Learn about the real world applications for underwater Robots.
- Build an underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV).
- Explore math, science and technology related concepts required to build their ROV.
- Customize their ROV to perform real-world underwater missions.
- Work in teams to solve underwater challenges.
This will be a great experience for students with medium to advanced technology skills.
How?
Students wishing to attend must apply using the Application Form provided below.
- Complete the application form and sign the permission statement. Applications will be accepted through June 16. Students will be accepted on a first come-first served basis.
- Make your check for $95.00 ($85 for GEARS members) payable to GEARS Inc.
- Submit your check, the completed application form and permission statement by June 16, 2008 to the address at the bottom of the form.
