The robot performed really well at Annapolis, and we ended up in the 11th seed position out of 60 robots, with a 6:2 record.
This got us picked for the elimination matches, but we didn't get past the Quarter finals. D'oh.
The drive system performed fantastically and we're still on our first set of wheels with no sign of excessive wear on any threads.
We had a few technical problems (as expected in our first competition) but now we feel prepared for Cleveland :)
The Hybrid mode worked really well, but the kids wanted it to go even faster, which caused a software problem that ran us into the end wall (realy hard) that resulted in a Yellow Flag.
That's what I get for changing the software with too little sleep :)
We also had a solenoid driver go bad on us at the beginning of one match, which prevented us from launching the ball once we picked it up.
It was good that we had the second set of ball pickup legs because a cross-brace on the first set got bent in a different hard impact, and then we broke the metal at a thin spot while trying to straighten it.
Garrett container had built us a second set that was actually much lighter and performed great.
All in all, it was a great learning experience.
Now it's time to regroup for next weekend.
ps: The WV team that we hosted at the GEARS center, played at Pittsburgh this weekend, and was on the Winning Alliance.....
Now they get to go to Nationals for FIRST LEGO League AND FIRST Robotics Competition :)
Phil.
